TeliaSonera International Carrier opens PoP in EvoSwitch carbon-neutral Amsterdam datacenter

TeliaSonera enhances green credentials through European expansion with carbon-neutral partner, EvoSwitch.

Date: 20 Jul 2012

TeliaSonera International Carrier has expanded its global presence through a new Point of Presence (PoP) in EvoSwitch Amsterdam, one of the most energy efficient and carbon-neutral datacenters in Europe.

The new PoP in EvoSwitch forms part of TeliaSonera International Carrier’s global strategy to enable simple and effective business communications for European and internationally based customers. EvoSwitch continually strives to reduce its global footprint and as a member of the Green Grid, a non-profit consortium that spearheads green developments in the datacenter industry, they play an important role in the innovation that empowers its customers to achieve carbon and cost efficiencies.

With TeliaSonera International Carrier, EvoSwitch adds another diverse and international carrier to its portfolio; growing its global presence, particularly in the Scandinavian regions where many of TeliaSonera International Carrier’s PoPs are located.

Simon Vye, Regional Director for Western Europe for TeliaSonera International Carrier comments, “As one of the top three carriers of IP traffic this is our 7th PoP in Amsterdam - one of the world’s largest data transport hubs. Our investment in EvoSwitch adds more, and greener, choice for our IP, voice and mobile data customers.”

Eric Boonstra, Managing Director of EvoSwitch, said of the announcement: “We share the same ethos as TeliaSonera, striving to deliver high quality supported by strong environmentally responsible credentials. This relationship points to growing interest from the Scandinavian regions, and we are excited to have another major international carrier within the Amsterdam datacenter.”

The next stage in EvoSwitch’s environmental responsibility programme is participation in a ‘Flexiquest’ project by independent research specialists TNO, to establish the feasibility of a renewable energy grid for medium-level energy consumers. The results of this study are expected in 2013.
