BMC Software delivers mobile computing freedom

The mobility revolution has upended almost everything about what it means to use a computer. Today, people – not just devices and data – can freely connect and collaborate – virtually anytime, anywhere. And while business leaders appreciate the productivity and competitive value of a mobile workforce, many are significantly challenged by its risks and requirements.

Date: 3 Jul 2012

BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMC) is preparing its customers – and their customers -- to thrive in this new mobile computing era, launching the BMC Mobile Device Management solution powered by AirWatch, an extremely popular provider of mobile device management. AirWatch was named a leader in the 2012 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Mobile Device Management Software. BMC’s sophisticated new management capabilities cut across all device types (including mobile phones and tablets) as well as mobile applications and content.

• Emphasis on mobile consumers, not just mobile devices – BMC’s new mobility offering bridges the gap between the mobile device and the mobile user by incorporating applications and content alongside a balanced approach to corporate and employee owned solutions.

“It’s dangerously short-sided for organisations to focus solely on device management without considering the implications that mobile content and applications have on the business,” said BMC chief technology officer Kia Behnia. “It is like trying to construct a building without understanding what it will be used for.”

• Mobility for the business user – Influencers and analysts alike agree that the mobile device, application and content management capabilities offered by AirWatch are the most innovative and well received in the industry and have been lauded for their ability to support any number of devices and users. The new BMC Mobile Device Management solution powered by AirWatch creates an unprecedented industry offering as it pairs the AirWatch technology with the strength of BMC’s industry-leading Business Service Management solutions.

BMC has taken a holistic approach to the mobility revolution and has made it simple for customers like Sanofi to embrace this sea change.
“With over 110,000 users all over the world, managing the fast-growing mobility needs in a highly transforming company such as Sanofi is no small task,” said Tim Tolan, Global Infrastructure Services at Sanofi, a global and diversified healthcare leader. “BMC Mobile Device Management powered by AirWatch will provide clear and visible control of our mobile devices while allowing new mobile access to our mobility solutions in a very intuitive, user friendly ‘app store’ experience.”

• Mobility for IT – BMC is also offering new mobility apps for IT management that help businesses bring the power of the industry-leading BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite to mobile workers. Purpose-built for mobile devices, these new apps monitor unscheduled IT outages and resolve and restore impacted revenue streams up to 30 percent faster than with desktop or browser-based applications.

“Previously, any help-desk issue that needed to be resolved was sent to the IT department from the support technicians’ desks, resulting in lengthy delays and an overall loss in productivity,” said Mike Campbell, BMC Remedy implementation manager at Dev Technology Group. “By upgrading to BMC’s secure, mobile ITSM solution, we’ve seen Federal customers increase their IT efficiency and process agility. This enables them to achieve their mission, which is to serve and protect the nation.”

“Mobility is no longer a trend. It’s the new reality for companies, their IT organisations, their employees and their customers. We are working with customers to embrace a world where the device is just the starting point,” Behnia said. “BMC plans to aggressively add to our mobility capabilities in the near future and continue our leadership in this critical space.”
