The objective of this collaborative initiative, called CA Labs Europe is to be a centre of innovation for Europe to generate knowledge creation and to achieve advanced research results. This cooperation will be driven through the Innovation and Technology Centre (CIT-UPC) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.BarcelonaTech, recognized as one of the most advanced technical university environments in Spain and throughout Europe. CA Labs Europe site will be located at the K2M building of the Parc UPC, in Barcelona.
“CA Labs Europe will conduct advanced research in cloud management solutions that have become so critical to the success of every organization in today’s technology-centric world,” says Dr. Donald Ferguson, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of CA Technologies. “With its abundance of top technical talent—and with so many superb companies operating in the surrounding area-- the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.BarcelonaTech will provide a tremendously fertile environment for important innovations.”
CA Labs Europe and the UPC will collaborate on the following:
- - Research projects related to IT management technologies -including cloud computing solutions- that respond to current and future needs faced by the industry.
- - Promotion and development of technology and business ideas proposed by researchers from the UPC and other Spanish and European universities, as well as from enterprises.
CA Labs Europe will enable students in their final year of technical or business careers to obtain real-world business experience, as well as provide them with opportunities to work with CA Technologies experts on innovative research.
The UPC rector, Dr. Antoni Giró, highlighted "the importance of collaborating with a global company as CA Technologies with extensive experience in IT management, because it allows us to value the results of both basic and applied research conducted in our labs, such as the research center Data Management Group (DAMA), and contribute to generate technological innovation for the corporate sector."
CA Labs Europe will launch its operations in Barcelona this month, focusing on five projects that will initially involve 10 researchers from CA Technologies and the UPC, specifically the Data Management Group (DAMA), a research center belonging to the TECNIO network of the Government of Catalonia, aiming at research oriented to technology transfer and cooperation with the industry. The projects will address security and privacy in a cloud environment, cloud forensics, machine translation tools for multi-lingual product localization, efficient visualization of very large systems, and new IT business models.
The Ministry of Enterprise and Labour of the Government of Catalonia, through “Invest in Catalonia” and the New York office of ACC1Ó, provided CA Technologies helpful advice and information to establish this new European research center.
The new enterprise-university lab will be part of CA Technologies global research organization CA Labs, which was established in 2005 to strengthen relationships with external research communities. CA Labs operates in close collaboration with universities, professional associations and government organizations around the world. Currently, CA Labs is conducting more than 30 research projects related to new products, emerging technologies and methodologies of enterprise IT management, in collaboration with 35 universities across 10 countries, with the participation of more than 90 researchers.
CA Technologies has operated in Spain for 30 years. The Barcelona site, which started its operations in 1984, and currently has a workforce of more than 125 employees, has become an important centre for the company in Europe, having incorporated in recent years various teams dedicated to development activities, technical support and customer care for the European region.
